Feedback wanted on animation test

Posted by Trilobiteproductions - 1 month ago

Hi so I made this short lil test using a character I named Sally and I wanna hear y’all’s thoughts on it

Anything you’d recommend me to change up or improve or is it good the way it is?

First things first: I am delighted that somebody asks for feedback before just putting something into the Movie Portal. :)

You need to replace the song. Even without looking it up, that sounds like licensed music to me. There might be a track with a similar rhythm/progression on NG, but I'm not an expert when it comes to how to track something like that down.
The rest of my advice is 'take it or leave it', but if the song would _require_ you to purchase a license your options are "replace it" or "shell out a ton of money to legally leave it in". That is not something you can just "smuggle into the Portal on a slow day".

The animation itself is a little "stiff". You pretty much see where you put in the start points and movement directions. Consider adding a "cute up and down wobble" to the rocket's trajectory.

I am assuming that the 'simplified black and white' look of the character and the rocket will be upgraded to something more colorful and complex and that the elbows and knees will look more "cleaned up" in the final version.
Same goes for the 'character background' ('the red').

The 'rocket background' (planets and stars) is good enough to use as it is. You could add a star constellation to it - including "the lines" to provoke a little smirk from the audience.

Having hair and dress flutter in the wind in the rocket scene would be a nice touch, but might be more work that it's worth. At that point you have to decide how you value your time and how much you want to learn from this animation.

You could already think about tags to use as well as a description for the animation, so you don't forget to add them on the day you publish. It also gives you more opportunities to notice typos and weak wordings. I speak from experience... ;)

The hair ornament for the character was a good call. It makes here more memorable and immediately makes her look more elaborate. "Sometimes it's the little things." :)

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it! I just wanna clarify tho I don’t really have intentions to put this on the movie portal tho as this was more of a simple movement test but ye I’ll work on making my stuff more fluid and cleaned up in the future :)
